Builder/Developer/Remodeler Criteria
Criteria for Active Membership
Active vs. Associate Membership

Upon Recommendation of the Consumer Affairs Committee; the HBA Board of Directors has voted to implement the following new criteria for builder/remodeler/land developer membership in the Association, effective November 5, 1998. (Associate membership requirements remain unchanged)
  1. Application for builder/remodeler/land developer membership must be accompanied by a personal letter of recommendation from an Active member of the Association.

  2. Applicants shall be subject to an acceptable credit report (based on criteria established by the HBA Board of Directors from time to time) on the company applying for membership or personal credit report on the principals applying for membership.

  3. Applicants must have either been engaged in their own business for one (1) full year prior to application for membership and must supply evidence of completion by his/her own business of one of the following items:
    • Three (3) dwelling units completed within the last two (2) years; or
    • Development of six (6) building lots completed within the last two (2) years; or
    • Five (5) remodeling projects of a substantial nature completed within the last two (2) years; or supplied evidence of equivalent experience of one of the above three items.

  4. The following references will be required by all builder/remodeler/land developer applicants:
    • Two (2) references from homeowners/customers/lot purchasers on completed projects within the last two (2) years (cannot be family, employees or principals of the company applying for membership).
    • Two (2) references from material suppliers who are members of the Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati or an affiliate Home Builders Association.
    • Two (2) references from subcontractors who are members of the Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati or an affiliate Home Builders Association.
    • One (1) reference letter from a lending officer of a financial institution, regarding the business' borrowing relationship.

  5. All completed applications will be reviewed by a committee of four (4) active members and three (3) associate members (one each from a financial institution, subcontractor and material supplier) prior to submission to the Board of Directors for election to membership.

  6. If an Active member leaves the Association for any reason for a period of 6 months or more, that member must submit to the same approval process as a new Active member applicant.

  7. If an Active member leaves the Association with a violation of the Code of Ethics, which would include obligations to homeowners as well as financial obligations to the HBA, careful consideration shall be given as to whether those obligations have been satisfied before that member is allowed to re-join the Association under the same or another company name.

  8. The Board of Directors, in its sole discretion, on a case-by-case basis, may establish specific criteria for membership in circumstances where a member's status may have changed due to any of the following: change of employment, a merger or acquisition, start of a new company, or the death of a member.

All other terms and conditions of membership as defined in Article 1, page 3 of the Association's By-Laws shall still apply.
